Review of Glencullen Christmas Tree Farm

We are real tree people. I love the smell of a real Christmas Tree and for me, the adventure of wrapping up warm and selecting our Christmas tree is the real beginning of the holiday season.

No matter where we live, each year we have found a fresh pine tree to bring home and decorate. Our collection of decorations has travelled the world with us, growing more sentimental each year.

Last year our tree turned brown and dropped lots of needles within days of bringing it home, despite following all the instructions. So this year, we decided to get as fresh a tree as possible and a visit to a Christmas Tree Farm promised this, with the added bonus of a fun family activity!

What is it?

Glencullen Christmas Tree Farm is a tree farm a short drive from Dublin city that sells trees directly to the public during the Christmas period.

How does it work?

You wander around the fields of trees (there are paths) and select your favourite tree. Then just grab an assistant who will cut it down for you on the spot and wrap it in a net whilst you pay, then help you to carry it to the car.

Where is it?

It's in Glencullen, Dublin 18.

How much does it cost?

The prices are displayed on their facebook page. They also take credit cards (their page says that they don't).

What are the opening hours?

Their facebook page lists their opening hours as:

Monday to Friday : 11am - 6pm

Saturday and Sunday : 9am - 6pm

What else should I know?

  • Their trees are great. We were blown away by the big, round full trees; so much better than the ones we have seen for sale around the city.

  • The trees are good value. We got a 4 foot tree (we need to put it on a table this year out of the reach of a wobbler) and it was just €15!

  • They also sell pine wreaths and holly.

  • The day we visited they had a mobile coffee shop for the grown ups and a gingerbread house for the little ones.

  • They have lots of free parking.

  • The staff were really friendly and helpful

  • It's an outdoor activity and it was really cold and windy, so wrap up!

The Verdict

We are thrilled to have found this place! We have already recommended it to family and friends and we'll definitely head back here year after year.
