Review: Frascati Centre soft play area

A new soft play area recently appeared in the Frascati Centre in Blackrock, Co Dublin. With a ball pit, foam shapes for climbing and various building blocks, this is an amazing free resource for kids (and parents) in the area.

What is it?

It's a fenced off play area in the centre of a shopping centre with a variety of toys for small kids to play with. There are seats around the outside for parents to watch.

Where is it?

Near the entrance to Marks and Spencer in the Frascati Shopping Centre in Blackrock, Co. Dublin. You can't miss it.

How much does it cost?

It's free!

What are the opening hours?

It's open whenever the centre is open. See here for opening hours over the Christmas period.

What else should I know?

  • Did I mention it's free!

  • It's a great place to have a chat with other local parents.

  • It is terrific in the mornings during the week, when it's quiet and tends to just be wobblers and toddlers.

  • There are rules, but it is unattended so these don't always get adhered to.

  • There is no age limit so it can be full of big kids enjoying more boisterous, rough play. Avoid after 2pm midweek and all day on the weekends with little ones.

  • The green carpet looks soft but the floor is not really padded underneath.

  • Kids are good at taking off their shoes, but plenty of parents seem to leave theirs on so it's getting grubby pretty quickly.
